mostly me

When kids are little they play that game of moving their toys from one place to another. My friend calls it 'You Go There, You Go There'. As we slog on with decorating the house, areas are starting to be finished and the last few house moving boxes are being unpacked. It's mostly books and a few photos - so I get to play 'You go there…' with things I haven't seen for a couple of years. In amongst them was another of my mini collections….

Passport pictures through the ages.

See now you're thinking 'But she said she wasn't a collector…'

Well as someone who has moved hemisphere/country/house on multiple occasions,
I can tell you that my personal archive of crap treasure would fit into a small valise if it had to.
No inherited furniture, no large musical instruments -
pointing no fingers, but before we moved house we were a two harmonium/one piano family.
We're down to one harmonium and a piano now.
I'm not a minimalist, but I crave calm and space more than I need to keep stuff.

How about you - clutter or space…???

  1. Love that pal!!! The progression in those photos is awesome! And that game of you go there is fantastic....brings forth the calm for sure! I like space but do have mini collections here and there...the beans collections are the ones I have to keep in check or they would take over! Ha! Are you the piano player?? Happy day to you!

    1. No - it's the boys in this house that are musical (which I love), but we definitely don't need more than one harmonium!

  2. I want both - clutter, and the space to display and enjoy it! Sadly, I have rather more of the former than the latter, and thereby hangs the problem...
Love the photos. Do you have a favourite look? xxxx

    1. The first photo in the middle row is my twenty something self, just started working in the film industry. All felt very rock and roll.

  3. I love an uncluttered space but have to say I rarely achieve it. Although sometimes I let piles build up for ages and then have a ruthless day just sorting (well, more like chucking) it all out. And my daughter hoards anything she can get her hands on, it's very difficult to get any old plastic container into recycling!

    1. I'm as guilty as anyone of letting piles of stuff accumulate - but then I'm ruthless like you. Not much into the 'this might come in handy one day' hoarding.

  4. Great to see your various photos! I am a hoarder chucker, as in I collect things and then have a big clear out periodically - in fact I took a bag of stuff to the charity shop today. No musical instruments taking up lots of space here though thank goodness! I hope that you find homes for your treasures. xx

    1. It is really nice to make the place look homey after all the building work and upheaval .

  5. I'm definitely clutter, without a shadow of doubt.

    1. I have to be strict about things like 'the space that doors open into is not to be regarded as extra storage space!'

  6. Oh my you are brave to share your passport photos - I love how they tell you to NOT smile! What fun to have that progression of images.
I am definitely a space person. I am constantly purging things in the house and putting them into a Goodwill/yard sale pile. I used to do it every couple of months, but now I think it is a slight addiction. Having a house free of clutter and stuff makes life simpler.

    1. The photos mostly just make me laugh. When we moved house I needed a new drivers licence so i went to the shop to get photos done. I have dual nationality and both my passports were up for renewal too. So I said to the guy 'I need photos for a driving licence and two passports' and he said 'Ah - witness protection!'. Maybe it happens a lot in this neighbourhood?!?!

    1. Aha! You spotted the barely disguised value judgement implied by the word clutter! I can only apologise to all you cluttterers, I mean collectors, out there ;-)
